Operation Isaiah 5776
Operation Isaiah is a High Holiday project of Shomrei Torah, originally conceived by the United Synagogue for Conservative Judaism.
This mitzvah event consists of the following:
Beginning on Rosh Hashanah, grocery bags and lists of requested items will be available in the lobby of the synagogue. Families are asked to take one home, go to the supermarket and bring back at least one bag with the suggested personal care, cleaning or paper products on or before returning to the synagogue for the Kol Nidre service. These items will be donated to the Wayne Interfaith Network (WIN), a volunteer, non-profit, tax exempt organization that operates a food and basic necessities pantry here in Wayne. WIN distributes to our own community, our neighbors. The WIN volunteers come from churches, synagogues and other organizations throughout Wayne.
In addition to the items on the list, families are encouraged to bring loose change, dollar bills or checks made out to the Wayne Interfaith Network.
ALL DONATIONS MUST BE IN THE SYNAGOGUE BEFORE THE KOL NIDRE SERVICE ON TUESDAY, SEPTEMBER 22.
We encourage you to use this project as a hands-on lesson in tzedakah (justice) and gemillut hasadim (deeds of lovingkindness) for your children, grandchildren and yourselves.
In addition to basic supplies, there is another opportunity to serve your community. Volunteers will be needed bring the grocery bags into the social hall, sort then bag/box the goods and deliver the sorted items to a location near the Wayne Hills Diner.
Volunteers will be needed starting at 4PM on Thursday, Sept. 24. We will be working at until evening Minyan. Adult volunteers will be needed after Minyan to help deliver the items to a location near the Wayne Hills Diner. Please let me know if you or your teenage child will be able to assist in this mitzvah project and the approximate time that you can be there.
Thank you so much!
